Flammable Liquid L.A. Underground After Hours club was one of the most groundbreaking, inspirational gatherings to happen during the early rave days in Los Angeles. Founded and curated by BabaLou. Established in early 1991, they started at 3AM in the mornings, ready to catch main event party goers that were not ready to give in for the night. Lines would start up 1-hour before the doors opened and the ever changing locations were always packed sweat boxes caused by heavy dancing from the best tunes to be heard, at the time.
Also, home to Fresh Produce, where it all began. It was Lou’s second night, held at the Gotham Club BEFORE the renovations with checkered floors, and name change. It looked completely different, unrecognizable after the renovations. But, at the time, the place was old, used, dirty and was perfect for the early underground days. I was there selling fruit to soaked-sweat dancers, but, after a couple hours I gave-in and started handing it out. That’s when the buzz started and ppl lined up for rejuvenating fresh fruit, early in the morning– and a name and collective were born, freshPRODUCE.
How did all this come together? Pasadena City College (PCC). BabaLou, and many FP fam attended PCC, and is where the early word-of-mouth began. Our first party happened soon after. October 2, 1992, was Raasleela, organized by Ricky Bonilla with Kaveh and Blair as Ocular Spectrum
